Ranch elderberry is an excellent choice for poor soils and growing environments, with a higher tolerance for pests, diseases, and drought than other elderberry cultivars. It has an upright growth habit and produces large clusters of white flowers from May through June, which ripen into small black fruits in August. Fruits can be used for wine, juice, jams and jellies, or for drying. The flowers and also be dried and used for tea or wine. Responds well to pruning which is recommended to maintain a useable size. Very attractive as a food crop for wildlife. Pollinate with any other American Elderberry.
