The O’Rourke fig and the Improved Celestial Fig have long been debated as being the same fig. We will leave that debate to more learned folks than us, but we do know that the shapes are different; the O’Rourke is more elongated and has a longer neck while the Improved Celestial appears more rounded. And the colors are different as well: the Improved Celestial being a navy/brown in color and the O’Rourke seems to be more reddish brown - almost maroon in color. Arguments abound that the tastes are quite different but we are staying out of that as well. We do know that the O’Rourke was released by Dr. O’Rourke from the famed LSU Fig Breeding Programs. Both come highly recommend.
